Oreo the Celebrity

Well today Oreo made it into the Citizen. For those who have access to the paper, check out the Travel Section and the fabulous photo of the majestic PWD. Sarah's true owners, Cheryl and Sarah, look wonderful and I, of course, look like a grinning idiot. Oh well. Isn't that always the fate of the writer?

As noted previously, since the photo was taken, Oreo has been shorn and is but a shadow of his former self. But the hair will grow back and he will regain his former status. In the meantime, I'm going to ask the Citizen photographer Jean Levac if he could e-mail me the photo. Hopefully I'll be able to post it soon.

Hi there,

Read your story about Oreo today in the paper - It was great! We've got 2 dogs ourselves and they are an endless source of laughter and love for us. At times, reading your blog was like re-living an experience we've had ourselves.. (especially that poop/toilet thing, yeah, good times...)

We have never put our dogs in a kennel but Oreo's "camp" sounds like a great place to board a pet. It's getting harder to find puppy-sitters - especially with 2 dogs (there's 2x the poop to pick up, after all..) - would you be able to reveal where he goes? We'd like to look into it.

Thanks for great stories. Good luck with Oreo - he sounds like a blast!

I'm glad you enjoyed my piece in the Citizen. Since I am a reluctant dog owner, writing about Oreo is kind of therapy for me. But I have to say that Oreo is a pretty good dog. I can't imagine what owners of noisy or unruly dogs go through.

As for Oreo's resort, it's called The Ottawa Valley Dog and Cat Resort and can be found at www.jowlflapper.com. It's a great place to board your dogs but I've noticed that the owner has changed his policy. He is now closed on Wednesdays so that rules out weeklong stays.

Our vet mentioned that there is a similar country dog resort also east of Ottawa near Russell. We may have to check it out if we need to leave Oreo somewhere for more than a long weekend.

Freelance writer? That describes everyone with a computer.

Not unless they're getting paid.

I have a black and white pwd also names Oreo...he is 6 months old....great Dog....he is the new celebrity in our village ( Elgin Ontario)....wish I had a pic of your dog....mine has 2 black eyes!....adorable....have a great day.....Charles

Hi Charles - Check out some of my earlier posts for pictures of Oreo.

Hi Ruthxx - Yes, I believe Oreo was purchased from Lowport Kennels. In fact, I think his official name is Lowport's Irish Boy. My wife was the purchaser so she has all the details. Oreo and I share the same birthday (March 23rd) so he's now more than a year and a half old. Despite being a reluctant dog owner, I have to agree with you that PWDs are great dogs.

Hi I am Oreo's mom, Cheryl. To Charles and Ruth I did purchase Oreo from Lowport in Smith Falls. His mother is Ebony and Ivory and his father is Don't Rock the Boat. Is he related to your dog(s)? There is a "Porty Walk" at Conroy Pit on Sunday the 12th at 1:30 and we will probably be there. Oreo's birthday is March 24th not 23rd. He was born in 2005.
